Talks with Ivano-Frankivsk opened preparation of joint cross-border projects

Mayors of Slovakia held talks with the leadership of the city of Ivano-Frankivsk on systematic Slovak–Ukrainian cooperation. The discussion with Mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv and Deputy Mayor Sviatoslav Nikorovych focused on preparing joint project concepts, involving Slovak cities and expert institutions, and using Interreg and other European instruments.

Key working topics included education, modernization of the school environment, digital learning and responsible use of artificial intelligence. Space for cooperation was also identified in vocational education, energy efficiency of public buildings, rehabilitation and social resilience, city data, accessibility of public services, healthcare, research and regional development.

The Ivano-Frankivsk City Council subsequently confirmed interest in creating a joint project portfolio based on real community needs, partners' capacities and the conditions of specific EU programmes. The proposed framework includes a joint coordination group, involvement of cities, schools, universities, healthcare and expert institutions, preparation of concise project concepts and preliminary checks of alignment with relevant calls.

Mayors of Slovakia will connect the city's needs with suitable Slovak municipalities, expert organizations, academia and business partners. The next step should be a joint online working meeting, creation of a working group and selection of one or two priority initiatives for more detailed project preparation.
